Dahlightful™ Dahlias

FN 1.7 DAH Dahlightful Lively Lavender blooms
Dahlightful™ ‘Lively Lavender’

Brilliant dahlias are longtime favorites for brightening up sunny landscape beds. This spring we’re widening the playing field with the Dahlightful™ series—it’s been bred specifically for containers. These short, bushy plants have strong stems and lots of double blooms—we hope you like the look as much as we do.

One Dahlightful™ feature of this series is that each selection has its own unique foliage, differing slightly in shape and shade of green. ‘Sultry Scarlet’ is the most dramatic—notice how the sunset red flowers glow against the dark, almost purple leaves.

A much longer bloom time is another signature trait that sets the Dahlightful™ series apart from most other dahlias. Plants start producing flowers early on and keep them coming until late in the season. This results in a nice long stretch of continuous, cheery color.

Dahlightful™ dahlias grow about 20–30 inches tall so we use them as thrillers in large combination planters. We also use pots of Dahlightfuls™ as charming accents around a sunny restaurant patio or deck. Although they’ve been bred for containers they still work well in the landscape, especially as filler in the middle of the border or simply planted in large groupings.

In addition to ‘Sultry Scarlet’ we have two more Dahlightful™ varieties:  ‘Georgia Peach’ and ‘Lively Lavender’. All are available in the 4.5-inch pot; ‘Lively Lavender’ and ‘Sultry Scarlet’ come in the 8-inch size as well.
