The Passion of White

FN 1.4 VIN Titan Pure White 0009
Vinca Titan Pure White is our #1 Vinca

Last year, we noticed that the white mums sold out first. Then, we saw that the white poinsettias also sold out first. These sales caught our eye, so we pulled some data to look into it. What we suspected turned out to be true – white is now the new black. Here are some reasons why we think white is surging back into prominence. We also found that, although the totals may change, the sales of white material is always important.

We also decided to create a White Directory this year, organizing the relevant cultivars by their dominant season, to help you in your creative planning. Most of our customers are color conscious to some degree, and we want to point to our pretty deep commitment to white material regardless of its fashion status.

Prep Rally

Designed by students from Horticultural program at University of Cincinnati

We prepped and planted the bed in June for the Field Day in August. As part of their classwork the students from the UC Horticulture program learned how to measure and layout a bed. We tilled amendments into the soil and then they designed a bed.

About eight students came to Diefenbacher this year and we explained that we like to use this particular bed for Field Day. Guests would be attending who would want to look around the bed—to see it and be close to it. We would need to be able to touch all the plants easily.

Pansy ‘Midnight Glow’

FN 1.1 pansy midnight glow
Pansies to paint the early spring landscape

Pansies are important for early spring—especially if you need to paint the landscape with a mass of color. They thrive in the cooler temps, especially those unexpected cold snaps that come along during the season. Plus Pansies are affordable, and budget is a huge factor when planning designs for clients.

National Poinsettia Day is December 12th

In 2002 Congress declared December 12th National Poinsettia Day to celebrate the beauty of one of our favorite holiday plants. This day was also set aside to honor Joel Roberts Poinsett, the man responsible for bringing the Flower of the Holy Night to this country from its native Mexico, and Paul Ecke, who is considered the father of the Poinsettia industry here in the United States.

We Have an Arrangement

FN 1.3 DSC 0366

Wreaths and roping are festive but if you need a fast, fragrant display of holiday color we also have beautiful evergreen arrangements in medium and large sizes. Each original design contains a lush mix of greens freshly cut from local firs in Central Ohio. Our aim is to capture the spirit of the season so we top them off with just the right amount of bling.
