Sedum 'Lemon Ball'

LEMON BALL 01

At first glance you might think this sedum looks vaguely familiar—it has finely textured, needle-like leaves similar to those of ‘Angelina’. This foliage is brighter and fuller, however, and has more of a lemon-lime cast, whereas ‘Angelina’ has a hint of orange. To be honest, ‘Lemon Ball’ is actually vivid chartreuse—and we’re not just saying that because it’s a popular design color.

This hardy, creeping groundcover is a good choice for sunny areas where the soil is poor or dry. Unlike many other sedum varieties, ‘Lemon Ball’ will even tolerate some shade. It forms a mound, reaching 4–5 inches tall and spreading about 10–12 inches.

We like ‘Lemon Ball’ because the foliage color is so versatile. It complements soft shades of blue, pink, or green and creates stunning contrast against dark-leaved plants like Pennisetum ‘Vertigo’ and Ipomoea ‘Blackie’. Sure, it’s great for rock gardens, but we use it when we want to jazz up a boring spot in the landscape or add some fun to container combos—it grows fast so it will quickly spill out over the edges.

‘Lemon Ball’ is available in the Flat 1801 landscape tray.
