Cleome ‘Senorita Rosalita’

Cleome 01

Cleome is an old-fashioned plant that’s familiar to most of us—you might know it as spider flower. ‘Senorita Rosalita’ is a new and improved selection, with lusher, darker foliage and no thorns. These pretty lavender-pink flowers are smaller than what you’ll find on other cleomes, and you’ll notice that blooms appear all along the stems rather than just at the tops. We like it because it’s performed strongly in a variety of different climates, and flowers keep coming all through the heat of summer—right up until the frost.

Full sun is best but this variety tolerates light shade, and it keeps its shape all season—no deadheading required. At 2–4 feet tall, ‘Senorita Rosalita’ adds a bit of height to the garden or containers. We use it as a thriller in large combination planters but it also works well on its own. Butterflies and hummingbirds will seek this one out, too, adding movement and interest to the landscape.

‘Senorita Rosalita’ is available in the 8-inch pot. We also have ‘Spirit Frost’, another new cleome with large, showy white flower clusters that we grow in the 6-inch size.
